You can take the man out of the Clinton White House, but you can never take the Clinton White House out of the man.
ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos this weekend encouraged viewers to support the Democratic Party’s efforts to flip two Senate seats in Georgia.
The moment came during an interview with Veep actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who participated in a star-studded fundraiser this weekend hosted by the left-wing advocacy group America Votes.
“All of you at home can get tickets for Veep live virtual table read happening Sunday,” said Stephanopoulos at the end of the Good Morning America segment. “Go to showupforgeorgia.com.”
The web address promoted by the ABC anchor directs users to an ActBlue page soliciting donations.
“Win Georgia & Attend Veep Uncut Hosted by Stephen Colbert! Chip in Now for Tickets!” reads the donations page. “Your donation to America Votes directly supports the Georgia-based groups working to educate and turn out voters for January's critical US Senate runoff elections. Join us to #ShowUpForGeorgia.”
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced this week that America Votes, along with three other groups, is under investigation for improper registration activities.
America Votes reportedly sent “absentee ballot applications to people at addresses where they have not lived since 1994,” he said.
As for ActBlue, it exists solely to raise funds for liberal politicians and causes. In fact, the left-wing nonprofit group has processed “more than $3.7 billion in contributions through the third fundraising quarter,” according to the News Tribune.
So, to recap, Stephanopoulos directed his Good Morning America audience to an ActBlue donations page to sign up for an event benefiting America Votes, which is under investigation for its efforts to defeat Georgia Republican Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler.
Anyway, for no reason at all, now is probably a good time to remind you that Stephanopoulos, ABC News’s chief political correspondent and news anchor, had to step down from moderating a Republican presidential debate in 2015 after he forgot to disclose $75,000 in donations to the Clinton Foundation.
For Bill Clinton’s former right-hand man, some habits, including campaigning for Democrats, are apparently hard to break.
