Left-wing agitators have spent the past six months razing entire communities and looting businesses.
Yet, according to certain partisan activists, President Trump is the reason why storefronts across the country are being boarded up in anticipation of Election Day-related violence.
Such nonsense.
Business owners are taking precautions because they have eyeballs. They saw what happened in 2016 after Trump won the presidential election. They are preparing for the slim possibility that the Democratic ticket loses again. If you think what happened in 2016 was bad, wait until you see what happens if Trump manages somehow to win his reelection bid.
Business owners also have seen what left-wing fanatics have done to entire communities in 2020. Fox News-viewing boomers are not the ones burning down neighborhoods and looting shops. It is not even right-wing groups such as the Proud Boys smashing windows and cleaning out entire storefronts. It is anti-police protesters, so-called anti-fascists, and other opportunists who have glommed on to a broader left-wing cause.
Yet, even now, as shops board up in anticipation of Election Day violence, some of the usual suspects in the press insist that this is all Trump’s fault, that the incumbent president is responsible somehow for the mob violence he has campaigned against.
“When conservatives celebrated Trump's election 4 years ago,” said the Atlantic’s Anne Applebaum, “did they know that in 2020 we would board up shops, prepare for riots and the arrival of militias, game out ways he might steal the election, protest aggressive vote suppression? This is what he has done to America.”
CNN contributor John Dean asked elsewhere, “What does it say about the USA under Trump when we have to board-up and employ extra security for commercial areas on election day?”
“POTUS defends lawlessness as long as it benefits him,” Playboy correspondent Brian Karem asserted. “Cities across the country now boarding up in anticipation of many more people who ‘did nothing wrong,’ should Trump win or lose. You must condemn violence from both sides to have any credibility.”
Let's pause here to appreciate the failure of the press's campaign to portray the violence this summer as “mostly peaceful." Some journalists have even cited their own relatively safe and secure living situations to argue that reports of violence have been overblown. Clearly, no one believed a word of these "mostly peaceful" reports, if the Election Day preparations are any indication.
Podcast host Danielle Moodie added, “The fact that stores are boarding up their windows and bracing for potential violence following the election is insane. This is what #Trump has done to America. We are a conflict zone now!”
“They are boarding up all the windows in downtown Boston again,” said activist Jenna Blum. “Have you ever seen anything like this before an American election? Neither have I. This is Trump’s America. Please note there is still love. Let’s get our country back.”
In what world are these people living?
It was not right-wingers who rampaged through Oakland, Minneapolis, and Seattle. It was not right-wingers who invaded and occupied a six-block radius in downtown Portland, establishing a so-called autonomous zone. It was not right-wingers who pillaged Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. It was not right-wingers who landed the national guard in Philadelphia.
The Left and its allies did all of that. If people are boarding up ahead of the election, it is because they have seen how left-wing demonstrators react when their demands are not met. The Right has reactions of its own, sure, but not the type that make it necessary and prudent for businesses to board up ahead of a major election.
By the way, while we are on the topic of post-Election Day violence, the White House is on lockdown now, NBC News’s Geoff Bennet reports, adding “beginning tomorrow, crews will build a ‘non-scalable’ fence to secure the WH complex, Ellipse and Lafayette Square. 250 National Guardsmen have been put on standby, reporting to Metro Police officials.”
These measures must be intended for all those violent Trump supporters.
Like everything else in “resistance” land, members of the press insist the recent violence that has devastated entire communities must be Trump’s fault, even if the violence comes from people who claim they are “resisting” the president. Because in “resistance” land, everything is Trump’s fault, even left-wing violence.
"In what world are these people living?" They live in the world where Trump colluded with the Russians to steal the 2016 election, the world where a call to Ukraine justified impeachment, in the world where Mike Flynn sold out his country, in the world where th3 2017 tax cuts only went to the wealthiest taxpayers, in the world where black and Hispanic unemployment didn't drop to the lowest levels ever recorded, the world where the idea expressed in 2017 that Jefferson and Washington statues would be torn down was mocked only to have it happen in 2020...you know, THAT world.
